Call of Duty: Vanguard is here, and it’s exciting, but the not-so-exciting thing is being level 1. In a low-ranking land, you’re stuck with default classes, you can’t use your favorite weapons, and your gun doesn’t have any damn-worthy accessories. Total! If you want to escape this purgatory ASAP (and you do), the only way is to earn XP as fast as you can.
Fortunately, Vanguard has some useful features to make XP grind easier this year. Here are the best tips for quickly leveling up, ranking players and maximizing your weapon experience.
How to level up fast in Call of Duty: Vanguard
Adhere to the footsteps of lightning combat
You know how in all previous Call of Duty, the best way to upgrade weapons or complete challenges is to play chaotic matches in Shipment/Nuketown 24/7? This is exactly what Blitz’s combat speed setting is like all the time. By filtering your Quick Match to just “Blitz”, you increase the number of players in each playing mode you select (usually 12v12).
On smaller maps, such as World at War remaster of Dome, this means that there is almost no downtime between battles. It can be a little frustrating to be constantly shot (at the moment, consecutive kills are frequent), but continuous action is the quickest way to grind weapon experience or complete certain challenges. And if you want to bump it up to 11, Free-for-All is probably your best bet.
Complete the easiest challenges first
At Vanguard, career challenges are grouped into groups of individual challenges. Each individual challenge is worth a few thousand XP, but completing a pack of them gives you a whopping 10,000 XP.
For this reason, it is wise to target one package at a time to get the 10,000 bonus more quickly. The packages seem to be organized by general difficulty, so I recommend starting with Boot Camp and countermeasures. Boot Camp Challenges are very generic missions that you can often complete by chance (such as “Win 25 Matches”) with a few that require some extra effort. The hardest is probably “getting 35 portable kills”, unless you’re one of the few CoD players who use this feature often.
Countermeasures aren’t bad either, although they do take more work than Boot Camp. These challenges center around destroying enemy equipment, such as field upgrades and kills. The only thing that might slow you down is “Destroy an enemy mine or C4”. You’re kind of in luck if these pieces of equipment don’t prove popular, and I haven’t seen them used much yet.
Unlock double XP in the battle pass
At launch, Call of Duty: Vanguard is conducting a “pre-season” battle pass in the run-up to its first proper season of content in early December. Most of the battle pass’s unlocks are exclusive to Warzone and Cold War, but there are many free levels along the way that unlock small rewards in Vanguard (even if you don’t purchase the premium pass). Few of these are Double XP tokens:
- Double XP Token for 1 hour (Level 1)
- 30 Minute Double XP Token (Level 11)
- Double Agent XP Token for 1 hour (Level 21)
- Double XP Token for 1 hour (Level 39)
- 30 Minute Double XP Token (Level 48)
- Double XP token for 45 minutes (level 94)
Again, you don’t have to buy the Premium Battle Pass access ($9.99) to get these codes, but they’ll go up faster if you do. You can also play Warzone or Cold War to work on these levels if you prefer.
Buy Doritos and Mountain Dew (I know, I know)
As stupid as it is, the best way to consistently double your XP earnings (if you’re in the US) is to buy “Dual 2XP” tokens (which give you a double XP account and a weapon XP) in the form of Mountain Dew, Doritos, and Game Fuel. All three of these high fructose foods come with a code for some time double XP, but some amounts are worth more than others. Here is the full detail:
- 20 oz. rosemary Code unlocks 15 minutes of Dual 2XP
- A 12 oz 18 pack rosemary Code unlocks 60 minutes of double 2XP
- 12 oz 24 pack rosemary Code unlocks 120 minutes of double 2XP
- 16 oz fuel game Code unlocks 15 minutes of Dual 2XP
- 2.75 oz. Doritos Nacho Cheese, Cole Ranch, Hot Xxtra Flamin’ Zone, Hot Sweet Chili, Spicy Nacho, Open 15 Minutes From Double 2XP
- 9.25 oz. Doritos Nacho Cheese, Cole Ranch, Xxtra Flamin’ Hot Zone, Hot Sweet Chili, Spicy Nacho, Code Open 60 Minutes of Double 2XP
Depending on how much double XP is for you, these deals might not be bad. If I really liked Mountain Dew, I would probably have cash in 2 hours of Dual XP for 24 packs. Heck, I was tempted to buy my first bag of Doritos in a decade this morning, but my corner store has already been wiped out (the cultural reach of Call of Duty is still impressive).
How to quickly grind weapon XP in Call of Duty: Vanguard
Use your favorite launcher weapon
At Vanguard, operators are more than just skins. On top of facing their own challenges, each character also has a “favorite weapon” that they get rewarded for using.
For example, if you play Solange and use an NZ-41 assault rifle, you will get additional weapon experience points for every kill you get. Free bonus for just picking out the right skin – not bad at all. With only 12 triggers available so far, not every weapon is someone’s favorite. 12 assault rifles, SMGs, and LMGs, with only one sniper rifle and shooter and rifle enthusiasts among their favourites. Future operators are supposed to have favorites too, so those other weapons will have their day.
Play on PlayStation (sorry)
Call of Duty’s love affair with PlayStation continues this year with Vanguard. Players who play on PS4 or PS5 will get a free bonus + 25% weapon experience points as long as they are grouped with friends and they will have monthly double XP events lasting 24 hours.
PC players don’t get such rewards, but we’ll just have to settle for playing on The greatest gaming platform There is.
How to quickly earn Player XP in Call of Duty: Vanguard
Unlock operators, then take on their challenges
Unlike Cold War and Modern Warfare, Vanguard does not automatically unlock any trigger when you jump straight into a multiplayer game. Customers must be unlocked through specific stages.
I unlocked my first client, Solange, by accident after getting a few multiple kills in my first matches. Once you have an operator, you can start working on their operator challenges. These are worth a lot of player XP (about 1500 each from what I can tell) and they aren’t too difficult. My first two as Solange are simply to score 100 kills and win 5 matches while playing as her character. Very easy, if you have the time.
Unlocking operators is a bit of a pain because it won’t earn you XP, but it’s worth it for the challenges they unlock, the awesome skins they’ve earned through the operator rankings, and another important new feature in Vanguard: Favorite Weapons.
