Even if your PC has the best hardware possible, your online gaming experience may be affected by a poorly powered router. That’s why so many companies produce high-end routers specifically designed to improve network performance while gaming, and now one of Netgear’s options is only $ 299.99 in multiple stores. This is a $ 50 savings from the regular price.
The model for sale is the Netgear Nighthawk XR1000 AX5400 gaming router. It has everything you’d expect in a high-end router, including Wi-Fi 6 support (though not Latest 6E protocol), WPA3 security, a USB port to connect drives to your network, dual-band Wi-Fi broadcasting (both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks are available). Netgear promises local wireless speeds of up to 5.4 Gbps, and there are five gigabit LAN ports on the back of the router.
There are some additional features related to the games as well. Netgear’s Bandwidth Allocation (QOS) feature can prioritize traffic from gaming devices, so network usage from people and other devices in your home should not interfere with online matches. The web panel can also display ping information for servers used by popular games.
We reviewed the Netgear XR1000 Earlier this year, it got 77/100 for great Wi-Fi performance and a feature-packed OS. However, more ports (especially USB connectors) would have been fine, and the web board is slow at times. Netgear also charges a subscription fee for its security package.
