The video shows the interior of the console and provides us with details from ALPS, the joystick parts manufacturer. It states that the expected service life of the sticks is 20,00,000 cycles and that clicking on the analog wand will last about 5,00,000 cycles.

Put these numbers into digestible bites, using iFixit Call of Duty: War Zone As a test, it states that the controller has an operating life cycle of 417 hours. This means if you run your PS5 for two hours a day, you will have about seven months of use before you start noticing the drift problem.

The company states that this is completely normal as with general use, the controller will weaken the potentiometers, causing them to start to drift.

These numbers are calculated in Call of Duty: Warzone, and will differ for each person depending on the games they play. So if you play a game that requires less movement and clicking, it will make your DualSense controller last longer.

As a reminder, in a previous iFixit video, we saw that the joysticks used inside DualSense are the same. PS4 Dual Shock 4 controller. Technology is also used inside Xbox One And the Nintendo Switch Controllers. All of these controllers over the years have experienced some form of joystick drift over the years.
