The developers at Firaxis are a big supporter of the XCOM 2 mods, and while they seem to have left the community to their own devices, they have made it very easy for modders to change the entire game. To show their commitment to fans, Firaxis actually teamed up with Pavonis Interactive (creators of Enemy Unknown’s original Long War game) to make sure the mod tools were as streamlined as possible before they were released into the wild.
Below is a selection of some of our favorites from the distinguished one Turn-based strategy game, Although it should be noted that this is a somewhat fragmentary list due to the slightly odd nature of XCOM 2 DLC Library.
The difference between vanilla XCOM 2 And the Chosen War It’s a bit like day and night, so the mod goals for both versions of the game can be completely different. One form won’t necessarily work with the other without some tinkering. Some of the mods on our list have versions available for both, and we’ve featured them where appropriate.
Best XCOM 2 Mods
These are the best XCOM 2 and War of the Chosen mods:
- Evac All
- Grimm Lott mod
- Elerium Grounds
- Long War 2
- Mandalorians in the Old Republic (WOTC)
- Musachis Repair RPG (WOTC)
- Instant Avengers Lists (WOTC)
- Capnbubs Accessories Package (WOTC)
- Better Coming (WOTC)
- True concealment (WOTC)
- Mechatronic Warfare Package (WOTC)
Getting all your soldiers to the point of evacuation and having to go through lengthy animations with each one of them is tedious to the point of torture. Evac All Adds a handy little button that makes every unit in the evacuation zone go out at the same time. Not only does it look cooler but also saves at least 1 minute. I cannot recommend this highly enough as a kind of quality of life.
This mode also contains an War of the chosen alternative Available.
Grimy’s Loot Mod
Three words: Diablo Style Lot
With new additions giving weapon carriers special perks and abilities as well as hundreds of new additions to boost stats, this is ideal for preserving a sense of risk and reward in late game when information and supplies start to feel redundant. And the sheer number of things that have been added is amazing:
- 96 new upgrades for basic weapons
- 81 new armor upgrades
- 45 new upgrades for pistols
- 45 new upgrades for swords
- 87 new upgrades for gremlins
- 45 new psi speaker upgrades
- 45 new grenade launcher upgrades
Grimy also provided a PCS Loot Mod It works along with this and makes Skulljack useful throughout the game as well Foreign rulers plundered the Ministry of Defense, Although that does require Alien Rulers DLC (which should be in everything now if you’ve purchased War of the Chosen).
Speaking of a file War of the chosen alternative For this mod.
Mid to late game, Elerium Cores are as rare as Bitcoins and Proving Ground can remain dormant for months at a time if you’re unlucky. Without new cores, it will lag behind special armor, heavy weapons, experimental ammunition, and grenades. Elerium Grounds It allows you – once you complete the required research – to create Elerium Cores to your heart’s content (for a fee).
It also allows you to upgrade Spider and Exo suits, while keeping them as valid armor options for the late game. However, if you like, both parts of the mod can be downloaded separately. While it will display a small warning icon when loaded with WotC, it can run without any problems.
Long War 2 Mod
The popular Long War game (in) is back alongside the launch of XCOM 2. Workshop officially endorsed by Firaxis itself, Pavonis Interactive has basically included a free DLC package.
Long War 2 It consists of a longer campaign, new classes with unique abilities and mechanics, new stealth systems that require multiple team dispatches, ADVENT AI, SMG weapons, and new enemies.

The new chapters have more customization options with a third option available in each rank (downloadable separately as Long War Advantage Package). My favorite part of the Long War game are the leaders. Units at Guerrilla Training School can be trained to obtain special abilities that benefit the team. However, only one leader can be undertaken per mission, so you have to be careful about who you are putting the burden on.
If you want to breathe new life into vanilla, this is the most important mod for you. The Long War mod from Pavonis Interactive for Enemy Unknown was great, and so was this.
XCOM 2 War Of The Chosen Mods
Mandalorians of the Old Republic
This is the latest mod That has already proven popular. It’s a cosmetic mod that allows you to equip your troops with different shields inspired by the Mandalorian race from Star Wars. Kits from various eras have been included, which will allow for some varied and nasty XCOM soldiers.
It should be noted that there are two types of recommended mods that you should grab along with this one, such as “Complete Invisible Heads” mod. This is because vanilla heads / hair can interfere with newer models, so if you want to maintain the indulgence, you will need to hide those heads.
Lists of Instant Avenger
Whoosh! Oh wait, you forgot to put something in the resistance ring. Whoosh! Whoosh! Damn, bonds available. Whoosh! Whoosh! Search completed. Whoosh!
You found the idea. Navigating back and forth between rooms and geo-scape can be like pulling teeth when you’re trying to get something done quickly. Lists of Instant Avenger It removes transitional animations and only lets you start working to defeat the aliens!
Musachis repair rpg
Like Long War 2, the RPG repair It completely changes the way the game works. Instead of having a bunch of different classes, units are instead placed in Soldier class and you can choose their abilities for a total of 98 unique abilities. With the ability points offered in WotC, you can even upgrade things like Health, Dodge, Aim, and Will.
With loads of other small mods such as soldiers’ ability to use any combination of primary and secondary weapons, outfitting secondary weapons as a primer, and introducing a new rank above Colonel, Musashi’s RPG pack is great for radically changing the game. Musashi recommends playing with a selection of other mods included on the mod page.
CapnBubs Accessories Pack
I like to make my soldiers look unique, who wouldn’t? And while the vanilla options are okay, The CapnBubs package It makes it so much better with loads of helmets, hats, goggles, and face props. And while the Halo and Star Wars customization tweaks are great, CapnBubs maintains the feel and does a great job of blending seamlessly with the rest of the game.
This mode also contains an Vanilla XCOM variant 2 Available.
A better adventure
As many mod fans know, it’s easy to download a bunch of mods and then forget what exactly you installed. I didn’t actually realize the large number of new units A better adventure Added by mods because it goes with the progress of the game smoothly and this means it works perfectly. While none of the units that ABA adds are overcome, its capabilities can be devastating. The Stun Lancer is a special curse for me as a low-level melee unit can make soldiers lose consciousness with its cattle sword.
Real hide by Kregano
The big change in gameplay in XCOM 2 was the stealth mechanic where you can move unseen and shoot down the enemy. The only problem with this was that the timer tasks were still running, which is not logical.
Real concealment It fixes this problem by pausing the timer until you are detected, giving you more control over how these tasks are handled. It makes the game a little easier so keep that in mind when choosing a difficulty level.
Mechatronic warfare package
SPARK is perhaps one of the most useless units in XCOM 2. At a cost of 2 cores of Elerium and a load of resources to build and with its focus on being a tank, SPARK can easily end up on scrap in the first shot.
The Mechatronic warfare package Dramatically improves use of SPARK by combining SPARK, squad armor, and weapon upgrades, reducing the total cost of SPARK units. Grimlin upgraded Specialist and SPARK BIT at the same time. It gives you the ability to rebuild destroyed SPARKs (you know, the full benefit of having robots) as well as changing the repair hatch, equipment hatches, and SPARK’s ability points.

I basically ignored SPARK even after I paid for DLC (Shen’s Last Gift) to get it but with this mod it’s really cool. It definitely should be.
How to install XCOM 2 Mods
The only thing to keep in mind when modifying XCOM 2 is that some mods only work with specific versions of the game – although the descriptions and launcher will mostly keep you right. Check to make sure you download the appropriate version for the one you intend to run.
Steam has a very healthy library of XCOM 2 mods, but you can also head to Nexus as well if you’d rather not use the Workshop.
