It’s New Year, and that means more Maine Craft Updates in the lead up to the Caves and Cliffs update in the summer. These picks include small added features that will all arrive at once later this year.

This time, the Minecraft 21w03a shot of Glow Squid – the mob who won community votes at the end of last year – and Glow Lichen, add a new addition to the anticipated expanded caves with the upcoming mega update of Minecraft.

So, squid glow. These new aquatic creatures do not spawn naturally in this shot, but can also be spawned in Creative Mode with a Glow Squid egg. This will give players the first chance to look at them!

Glowing squid shimmers under the ocean, transmitting light even to the deepest ocean depths. This means that it should not be difficult to find. When killed – if you can get yourself to do so – they will drop glowing ink bags.

These ink bags are an interesting new element in Minecraft. You can use glowing ink to bring color and light to your signs. This means that you will be able to read the signs, even at night. This can also be used to light up the frames of your objects. You can use an ink bag on a banner to remove glare later.

This is also the first time there has been new mob interaction in the upcoming Caves and Cliffs update. Axolotls, who is another new gang, will attack that Glow Squid they see in the location. So be careful when planning to build your brand new exciting aquarium.

Next, Glow Lichen. This is a new faint light source found naturally in caves. You can collect them with shears or use a bonemeal to help spread their growth along the rocks. Glow Lichen will bring light into even the darkest caves.

Minecraft Snapshot 21w03a also includes a simple dripstone change – you can make dripstone blocks from 4 tapered dripping stones – and a host of bug fixes.

This includes a few changes to Shulker mechanics – they can’t be pushed back or pushed inside other blocks anymore – and a couple of fixes to animal feeding / domestication problems and general crash fixes.

The Minecraft Caves and Cliffs update arrives in the summer of 2021 and will contain loads of new mechanisms to revive Minecraft’s somewhat boring cave systems. The ages have gone by since nothing new was introduced to this main and important area of the game, and these picks give players a chance to try it first on the Java version.
