Axiom Verge It was released nearly six years ago and a sequel is in development, but that doesn’t mean now is a bad time for the game’s first DLC to come out. The free Randomizer mode is in beta, and if you own the game on Steam, you can access it now.
As the name suggests, the mode “randomizes” the locations of Metroidvania items. This seems risky, especially in a game where carefully crafted power-ups set the flow of progression. But the situation takes all of this into account, Thomas Hub writes about the game Official Website.
“The Randomizer is smart enough to know that in certain areas you need weapons with certain characteristics to advance,” he writes, adding later that “if Randomizer gives you any old weapon, you may be prevented from advancing any further.”
Needless to say, it must have been a real headache in execution, and it was definitely an act of love: as Hub points out in his book Mail, The mode was originally a mod created by Axiom Verge’s fast-running community.
There are three challenging modes for Randomizer, although it’s probably a bad idea to dive into any of them if you never complete the main game. The difficulty of the “beginners” is what you want to try: the other two rely on knowing the game’s glitches, things that only the fast runners are interested in.
The post also indicates that Axiom Verge 2 about to finish. “I’m finalizing it and will talk about it soon,” said Hub.
