Twitch removes PogChamp’s expression: “We cannot continue to enable conscientious image use”

Earlier in the day, far-right rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol to support President Trump’s unfounded claims that Joe Biden’s election was fraudulent. As the building has been hacked, we are Notice that Streamer Good dadHis cable commentary and news feeds have become a staple of Twitch content.

The day isn’t over, and Twitch is a good fit again for a different reason: He responded to a tweet from fighting game character Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez by removing Twitch’s very popular PogChamp expression, depicting his face.

In the tweetGutierrez called for “civil unrest” on behalf of one of the rioters, a woman who was shot dead by law enforcement authorities inside the Capitol. Gutierrez referred to her as “the martyr Magam” and described her death as an “execution.” Twitch saw the statement as a call for more violence by the pro-Trump mob.

“We have made a decision to remove PogChamp’s emotion after statements from expressions encouraging more violence after what happened at the Capitol today,” Twitch Books.
