Cyberpunk 2077’s best settings for performance

If you’re the last one and bought a new RTX-equipped PC for this game, it’s finally time to get the most out of your GPU in Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red has worked with Nvidia to bring two of the biggest RTX features into the game – ray tracing and DLSS. . The combination of these powerful features is the PC gaming equivalent of having your cake, eating it too, then stealing someone else’s cake and eating it for a laugh.

System requirements range from 2013 built devices like GTX 780 and i5 3750k, all the way to the latest and greatest from AMD and Nvidia. If you have owned a gaming-capable computer for the past five years, you should be able to play Cyberpunk 2077. Although there is no built-in benchmarking tool, we found a tweak to our settings while navigating in a crowded area to be a strong indicator of performance. We’ll also share some setting tips that you can change in an effort to hit the vital 60 fps mark that many of us hold dear.

If you own an Nvidia GPU, make sure to update to the latest drivers (version 460.79) which will be available for download before Cyberpunk 2077 launches. While you can run the game without using these drivers, you might experience worse performance and graphic glitches. Cyberpunk 2077 has over 20 different graphic options that can be tweaked, forcing you to play around with a mixture of settings in order to get the best performance. We recommend experimenting with presets (low, medium, high, and ultra) first to find a solid base fps, then adjust each individual setting according to your preferences. Here are some of the settings we found that made the biggest difference in terms of performance and visual quality.

Quality of screen space reflections

This setting determines the quality of reflections in the game. Night City in Cyberpunk 2077 is filled with neon signs and reflective surfaces, so it’s understandable why this setting will have such a big impact on your performance. You have a choice of five different quality options including the rare and questionable “psychological” setting, although we recommend Low. Our frame rate jumped 11% from Ultra to Low, and while there are some visual differences, it’s not worth affecting your performance unless you can quite afford it.

Ambient occlusion

The Ambient Shutdown setting affects shadows in areas where the environment blocks incoming light. Raising this setting to medium will make the world feel more vibrant by adding more light sources and shadows, but your frame rate will suffer as a result. Turning off Ambient Occlusion increased our frame rate from 76 (at the highest level) to 80. We recommend setting this to Low at the bottom line – while it costs some frames, the additional shades make the game look much nicer.

Volumetric clouds

This setting affects how clouds in the sky are realistically displayed, however, there is not much difference between medium and ultra. We recommend sticking to the Medium for this setting because it boosted the frame rate by 8% during the day on average – which is a nice boost for almost no noticeable visual difference.

As with all games, ray tracing comes with a heavy performance cost, but the visual returns are unmatched by any in-game graphics setting. If you own an RTX card, we highly recommend turning on DLSS as this feature can greatly increase the frame rate. There are five DLSS presets (Auto, Quality, Balanced, Performance, and Superior Performance), each designed to provide the best experience depending on what you are looking for.

Using the Quality DLSS setting with Ray Tracing: the premium graphics preset, our average frame rate jumped from 40 to 62, an increase of 55%. The power of DLSS cannot be overstated, and even if you don’t use any ray-tracing features, it’s worth enabling this setting only for the free frame rate increase.

Unless you’re trying to run the game in 4K or even 8K, we recommend staying away from the High Performance setting. While this option technically works at lower resolutions like 1080p and 1440p, you won’t see a real benefit until you get to 4K. You can use the normal performance setting at lower resolutions to get a higher frame rate, but you can spot strange visual effects every now and then.

Although the latest AMD graphics cards support ray tracing, Cyberpunk 2077’s ray-tracing features will be exclusive to Nvidia at launch. CD Projekt says they are working with AMD “to deliver this feature as quickly as possible,” but it may not arrive until 2021.

Cyberpunk 2077 community fixes

Since the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, we’ve seen a number of performance fixes from the community. From REDengine 4, don’t use power AMD Ryzen CPUs, for setup Configuration file fixes In order to deal with the game’s memory reserves, these fixes had drastic consequences for many players.
