If you expect a massive change with FIFA Upgrade of the next generation of 21, you will be very disappointed. This is not a new game, but rather a remake, and even that might be a boost.
Like most years, FIFA started out very interestingly. It’s like EA Sports – a trademark of Electronic Arts The game launches in working condition and proceeds to ruin gameplay before Christmas with a series of gameplay patches. By the time the next FIFA date comes, everyone is desperate to jump into the next match. It’s kind of a foil hat theory, but when you deal with a company like EA … well, who knows?
This is why people were moderately eager to upgrade from the next-generation FIFA 21 gameplay. A major change in gameplay, AI coding sharpened, and a little bit of fluidity to the game. This is not exactly what happened.

Instead, we get a new camera angle (very similar to the one you might find in a small game called PES), sharper beard and hair graphics, and new audience animations. There’s a new celebration if you score a goal at the last minute – the crowd turns to mind, your goalkeeper starts making back flips, and your opponent launches their console at the wall.
On the console theme, I’m playing the FIFA 21 Next Generation upgrade on X-Box The X series, so I have nothing to report on the PS5’s dual Sensory console integration. Apparently, the triggers adapt to your player’s stamina. Sounds kinda interesting, if not a gimmick.
Does the game load faster? Are Ultimate Team Lists great? Yes, at least, they were on the first day. It was comforting to see that the next-gen update was actually having an effect on the game, although that appears to have already faded away. I think the listings still respond faster – it’s hard to tell how amazing the EA servers have performed in the past couple of days.
In pre-patch marketing materials, EA talked about how they were fine-tuning the animations of players on the pitch, but so far I can’t see any teams. The graphics are marginally better, but unless you’re playing on massive 4K TV I don’t think you’ll be able to figure that out during FUT Champs …
